The Basilica and Royal Sanctuary of Nuestra Senora del Pino is the most important Marian place of worship in Gran Canaria and, given its said statute and history, as well as its architectural, decorative and artistic merits, it has been declared a national interest monument. Besides the plethora of interior decorative elements (altarpieces, paintings, and stained-glass work), the edifice strikes by its exterior gargoyles which are a later addition to the original structure of the church motivated by a practical reason: draining the water collected on the roof of the church.
